About Us
There are 1.8M seafarers worldwide who de liver 90% of everything we consume. 60,000 of these seafarers from 50+ different countries visit Savannah every year. Our mission at Maritime Bethel is to be the Good News of Jesus, in both word and deed, to each one of them. We provide chaplain services and pastoral care on board the ships, advocacy, transpor tation ashore, money transfer, and connections to home.
Mission
Bringing the Good News of Jesus, in both word and deed, to seafarers calling on the Port of Savannah.
Through both word and action, we provide spiritual care, fellowship, and practical support to those who spend months at sea, often far from family and community. Our goal is to be a welcoming presence, offering encouragement, prayers, and resources to help meet their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.

It was July 2007…
when Rev. Andy Krey, who had been serving seafarers since 1969, founded Maritime Bethel Savannah. From its founding until his retirement in March 2020, Andy served as Chaplain and Executive Director of Maritime Bethel. With a deep commitment to the “people of the sea,” Andy established Martime Bethel as a place of support, and spiritual guidance. In March 2020, leadership passed to John Houchens, who now serves as Executive Director. Together with new Board Members and trusted advisors, John continues to build upon the strong foundation Andy created, ensuring that Maritime Bethel Savannah remains a welcoming center where seafarers find a place of support.
